Editing = Nightmares

I am on round four of editing my book, I was sure the third time would be a charm but as it turned out I was SO wrong. One valuable lesson I have learned while on this journey is that you will never be able to please everyone with your work. I have several people who read my books and one very trust person who reads it from an editors point of view. Each have things they loved, things they felt could have been left out, and more they wish I had added. As the editing whirl wind began nothing seemed impossible, now that the ride is still going I find myself screaming "Someone stop the world and let me off."

You know you need a break when you start dreaming about the words in your book, it's much worse when they chase you in your sleep...okay my dreams aren't that crazy but it makes you think. Even with all the pressure I wouldn't trade writing for anything else in the world. I love the adventure and excitement I get from creating a new world and living through my characters. My childhood was filled with me escaping into a good book, it was the best way to explore places I would never have the chance to actually visit, also a great way to pass the time when you're grounded.

If I can bring only one person that same kind of joy or adventure from my work then it will be worth every single minute I feel stressed over editing. To see someone smiling while they're reading a book you wrote has to be the most magical moment an author can experience, it's the moments like that to which I look forward to.

Have a Great Week!

Write On Wayward Authors,
Jane
