Today I have begun a new journey, searching out agents that could possibly be a match for my manuscript. If you have finished this step or at least the first round kudos to you! I almost feel like a tiny fish swimming in the huge ocean with no direction, I can hear Dory singing "Just keep swimming" in my ear.
Making sure a specific agent reps your genre is the part which is taking me the longest to research. I read each and every agent and or agency website to make sure I'm not wasting any ones time (Including my own) with querying those who handle say Medical Fiction instead of my genre of Paranormal Romance.
At certain points I feel like I'm going around and around, you know the kind of day where it feels as if you keep making left hand turns and you feel like your getting there but suddenly you look up to see the same tree you pasted ten minutes ago....Ugh, GPS over here please!!
No matter how frustrating this gets it is indeed a very important step in narrowing down the thousands of agents you'll find and armed with that info you'll get your top one hundred (or so if your like me) A list agents. In the process I have decided I needed a practical way to keep track of all queries as they are sent out and responses, for this a made a query tracking page in Word. This should make it all much easier, no double queries to prospective agents = not looking like a complete idiot!
Query on Wayward Authors!
