Query Anyone?

If you thought writing your book was the hardest step in becoming an author, I hate to be the bubble breaker here but it gets worse. Writing my book was much easier than the next step.....writing a query letter, and not just any query letter, it has to be just as wow-tastic as the manuscript, if not more so. Simply saying my family and friends love my book and I am sure you will too is so not what an agent is looking for.

Writing a query letter is much harder than I had expected, it has to grab the agents attention and leave them wanting more. How do you build your entire novel into a few paragraphs? Good question but the best answer I can give you is this: It takes a lot of time and patience, have your family and trusted friends read it and tell them to be brutally honest, don't write anything about yourself that doesn't pertain to either your writing credentials or your current work of art..agents are busy and frankly don't care if you have two dogs or a bird that talks, research each agent you are interested in being represented by and follow their guidelines, NEVER mass submit the exact same query letter to fifty agents, why? you may ask, simple answer: No two agents want the exact same thing and if you don't know what they want you will be wasting not only your time but theirs as well.

I am in no way an expert on this subject, I'm still trying to perfect my own query which is finally starting to come together...or at least I hope it is *G*. I just like the thought of giving a few pointers and tips that I have come across on this journey which may help a fellow author.
Any who, I hope you enjoyed today's rambling, more to come in the future.

Have a Great day and Happy writing!!
Jane
